There is a Social Media Etiquette
As more and more ministry people turn to social media to connect with their communities, it is important to realize that each social media platform has it own etiquette. When we don’t follow the correct etiquette, we reflect negatively on our ministry no matter how well-intentioned we may be.
Here is an infographic which summarizes etiquette for the most popular social media platforms. The infographic says that it is for “Business.” Substitute for “Ministry” and it works just as well. There are a few other places where you will have to make the same transition, but they are obvious.

Most helpful! I do not use all of these venues–but good to know. Do you have any tips on just plain professional emails? How about FaceBook tips for ministry?
Thanks for all of your great work!

This collection of do’s and don’ts offers excellent advice and also a useful list of all the major avenues of social media for promoting products and ideas. Thank you for posting! Now, if it were just available in pdf format:-)

Jean,
Several years ago I wrote a post on email etiquette. I think the “rules” still apply. Here is the link: https://catholicwebsolutions.com/2010/10/11/twelve-rules-for-ministry-email-etiquette/

Thanks so much! Another question: do you have any data–or a book–that shows which platform the young are likely to respond to? Say age groups high school, college, and post college? We are thinking of developing programs for these age groups, and are wondering about the best venue. Thanks again! Jean

Jean, Here is a link to the current demographics for the major social media sites: http://www.digitalinformationworld.com/2015/01/the-demographics-of-social-media-users-infographic.html.
FYI: Whenever you have questions like these just put them into Google and you will most likely find a number of resources to help you.
