In speaking about the Third Commandment, “Keep holy the Lord’s Day,” Pope Francis presents this day of rest, “not as a mere escape or diversion,” but as “an occasion of joy, praise, and thanksgiving for the gift of life, culminating in our celebration of the Eucharist, the supreme act of thanksgiving given to us by the Lord himself.” The Holy Father asks the question: “What is rest according to this commandment?” He answers: “It is the moment of contemplation, it is the moment of praise, not of evasion. It is time to look at reality and say: how beautiful life is!”
