Stories, Stories, Stories

As everyone knows, Facebook is constantly adding new features. In March 2017, it added Stories to its app. In October 2017, they opened the option to Pages. This option had already been added to Facebook’s Messenger. Facebook Stories disappear after 24 hours. These only appear on mobile devices.

Snapchat is the most well-known, perhaps the first, app to offer disappearing content. Snapchat is a message app used mostly by teens and it has one type of message stream. The video message or photo message is posted and it disappears 10 seconds after it is read or within 24 hours if it is a public post.

Instagram, also favored by younger folks has two message options: the newsfeed which is permanent and the story feed which disappears within 24 hours.

Now Facebook has its own Facebook Stories.

“Facebook Stories are short user-generated photo and video collections that can be viewed up to two times and disappear after 24 hours.”

I have not used Snapchat and have only used Instagram a few times. However, I became curious when accessing my Facebook app on my phone, I saw at the top of the page a row called “Stories.” So I have done some research and see that Facebook is offering its own version of disappearing content (which you can save to your phone if you want to keep it.)

These “Stories” are a move to “camera-first” communications. Facebook wants more user-generated content. Here is my first attempt creating a video message using one of the filters.

There are many filters to use, as well as graphics to add to your photo and you can also add text.  The really creative person can have a lot of fun with this.

I don’t dare pretend to know how this works to any degree, but I did find this article by Buffer: Facebook Stories: Everything You Need to Know About Facebook’s Latest Feature helpful. Check it out and see if you want to try Facebook Stories.

If you are already using Facebook Stories, tell us about your experience.
