Set Your Facebook News Feed Preferences
When Facebook started using an algorithm to filter the posts that we see in our News Feeds, many people were unhappy. They weren’t always seeing the posts they wanted to see first or at all. Facebook listened and now provides users with a way to prioritize their News Feed preferences.
Here is how to prioritize what you see on your Facebook News Feed using a computer.
- Go to the menu bar and click on the down arrow at the far right.
- On the drop down list, click on News Feed Preferences:
- You will see the list of people you follow. You can look at the list as a Summary of the posts you see or just the People, the Pages or Groups you follow. To the right of each name there is a button labeled “Following.” Click on that button for your three other options:
See first
Default (uses Facebook’s algorithm)
Unfollow
The name of the button will change to indicate your choice.
Using this feature we can prioritize the friends and Pages whose posts we want to see first. Their posts will appear on the top of our News Feeds with a star displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the post. After the supply of prioritized posts has been exhausted, the regular News Feed mix will take over.
Here is a video from Facebook explaining the update using an iPhone. Click on the Full Screen icon in the lower right hand corner to enlarge the video.
Whether you make the changes on your computer or your iPhone, the changes will be consistent across devices.
Are you happy that Facebook has now given us this option?

I still wish that there was a way to get all posts from everyone I follow in the order that they were posted. Then I can browse my feed and for those that I really want to I make lists. But then FB wouldn’t be able to monetize and charge for post boosts. But I suppose that is why we have twitter 🙂
I basically look at my “most recent” feed and have created a couple of VIP lists of people and pages I don’t want to miss. It seems to work until the next FB innovation.

So, I found this option for my personal account, but it set up the same for FB pages. There are specific pages and people that I would like to be able to see first hand for our parish page. Do you know if there is a way to get this to work for pages as well? Thanks!

Pilar,
I am not sure that I understand your question. News Feed is what appears on the home page of your personal account. That is the only place the prioritization works. You have to be following the people and pages that you want to prioritize. If this does not answer your question, perhaps you could clarify it for me.
