Privacy and Security on Facebook

privacy-andsecurity-on-facebookDo you know how to set and/or review your privacy settings on Facebook? If yes, have you reviewed them within the last year? If you answered “No” to either of these questions, take some time today—right after you finish reading this blog and do it.

Privacy

Facebook provides a simple Privacy Check Up that takes you through your Posts (who do you want to see them); your apps and your profile and shows you how to set who sees what.

You can get to this check up by clicking on the lock in the upper right hand corner of your Facebook Page. lock

Security

In terms of security, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to change your Facebook password regularly. Not sure when you last changed it (if ever)? Click on the down arrow to the right of the lock icon. down-arrow

Your page will open to General Account Settings, one of which is your Password. There you will see how long it has been since you last changed your password. If it wasn’t within the past year, click Edit and change it now. Changing your password on a regular basis is the best way to keep your Facebook Page from getting hacked and if it does get hacked it is one of the first things you should do to recover.

While you are in Settings, take a look at the menu to the left, you may want to click through the various items and learn what other choices you have.

The Facebook Help Center

Have you ever visited the Facebook Help Center? Take a look at it and just note what is there, so that if you do have a question or a need—you will know where you might find an answer. The link to the Help Center is found under Settings. Click on Help, then click on Visit the Help Center. The link is 3rd line from the bottom.

    Susan,
I just now changed my Facebook password (it’s been over a year!) and understand better how to keep it secure.
Thank you for this reminder and for the practical help!
    Pat
