Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
This weekend we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. The Entrance antiphon speaks of God feeding his people with finest wheat. We are reminded in the prayers and the readings that through this wonderful sacrament of the Holy Eucharist we are fed with the Body and Blood of Christ.
The United States Catechism for Adults tells us that “By the Power of the Holy Spirit, Christ is present…in a wholly unique manner in the Eucharist…It is presence in the fullest sense: that is to say, it is a substantial presence by which Christ, God and man, makes himself wholly and entirely present.”
Jesus, speaking to the crowds said: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (John 6:51) Our ability to believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist is a gift of our faith—one that we want to confirm and renew often.
It is good for us to remind ourselves and our social media followers of the greatness of this Gift. We want to encourage all believers who follow us to rekindle their love for the Eucharist and not take it for granted. Through this Solemnity, we publicly reaffirm our belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and its centrality in our faith life.
