Lenten Picture Quotes to Share

Last week I shared with my readers a video for the First Sunday of Lent. I was pleased to see that a number of you shared that video on your Facebook Pages and websites. It is important that our online ministries be spiritually enriching and engaging especially during the season of Lent.

It is easy to overlook the importance of providing spiritual nourishment on our various internet platforms when there are so many spiritually enriching activities taking place in parishes. These can include: missions, days of retreat, communal reconciliation services, Stations of the Cross, speakers, holy hours and so on. Many parishes also offer soup suppers, fish dinners, food and clothing collections and other meaningful activities.

However, that does not excuse us from making our websites and social media sites spiritually enriching as well. It is likely that some people who will visit these sites will not engage in the activities offered for a variety of reasons. The Church is busy during this time of year and so are our people. Let’s inspire and encourage them using every tool possible.

This week I am sharing with you two picture quotes and the social media descriptions. I created them on Canva.com. I created the purple background myself and the shining cloud image is from Pixabay.com (free downloads of royalty free images). These are not difficult to create and are worth the effort. The scriptures are very quotation rich during Lent. Take advantage of that. Feel free to use these as you wish. Right click on the image and select “save as” to upload them to your computer. From there you can share them. If you don’t like these, let them inspire you to create your own.

For Today, March 12 (Post Now)

Today’s Gospel (Matthew 6:7-15) brings us the prayer that Jesus taught us. “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name …’” Today’s readings can be found here: http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/031219.cfm #OurFather

For Sunday, March 17 (Schedule to Post Saturday AM, March 16)

This weekend the Sunday Gospel recounts the story of the Transfiguration. Jesus reveals his glory on the mountain before Peter, James and John. And “From the shining cloud the Father’s voice is heard: This is my beloved Son, hear him. (Cf. Matthew 17:5) Read all of the scriptures for this Sunday here: http://usccb.org/bible/readings/031719.cfm #Transfiguration #2ndSundayofLent

I especially like Adobe Spark for making memes.
    1) It’s simple and online
    2) You don’t have to hunt for stunning photos–it has globs and globs of them for free usage
    3) Once you master a few basics, you can create memes in minutes
    4) It’s free
    5) Did I say it’s FREE?

    Hi John,
Thanks for the comment. I checked out Adobe Spark and it does nice things and could be useful to many. The free version is very basic.

Also, I am curious about your use of the word “meme.” My images here which I call “picture quotes” can also be called “image macros” (I just learned that.) and are not “memes.” I think that an internet meme is “A piece of media, often humorous, that spreads rapidly through the internet.” Check out this article for more information: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/what-is-a-meme-examples/. Do you really create “memes”? I would love to see one.
I always appreciate hearing from you.
