Learning Instagram: Part 3

Last week I shared information on how to set up a personal Instagram profile.  If you did not set up your account yet, you may want to go back and read last week’s blog.

Here are the basics that I have gathered in my study of Instagram thus far.

  1. You can set up a personal Instagram account or a business account.
  2. You can convert your personal account to a business account if you want to.
  3. You can manage up-to 5 business accounts (that are associated with Facebook business pages for which you are an administrator) with your personal Instagram account.
  4. Once you get over 100 followers on an account, you will be able to see demographic statistics (age, gender, location) in your Insights. Until then you will only see accounts reached, interactions and total followers in Insights.
  5. There is an Instagram Help Center at this link: https://help.instagram.com/ in case you want to check it out.

It is a best practice for those of us posting for a ministry (not business) to have a separate ministry accounts rather than use our personal accounts. The audiences are different and the mission is different.

Ministry Instagram Audiences

The audiences for a ministry account are the people we want to reach and serve through our ministry: i.e. members or those associated with our religious community, parish, school, youth group, diocese, organization, etc. We want to provide them with quality content that strengthens our connections and allows them to engage with us through comments, likes, and shares.  They can also contact us (phone or email if we want) or visit our website.

Here is a video on how to add a Business (Ministry) account to your personal Instagram account.  The presenter shows two methods; they both work—one works from Instagram and the other from Facebook.  Remember in order to create a business account on Instagram, you must also have a Business Page for the same ministry on Facebook and you must be an administrator on that Page.

That is enough for this week.  Post your questions below and I will try to find the answers.
