Image Size Matters on Social Media

SM Image SizesIf you are posting to social media sites for your parish, religious community, organization or ministry, you know that posts with visuals are the most impactful.  You also know that it is not enough to take, create or acquire a photo, graphic or video, you need to size it according to the requirements of each platform.  Nothing is permanent on social media, including the preferred sizes which change from time to time.  I keep my own little “cheat sheet” of sizes for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn on my desk for quick reference.  Having the correct size of image makes the posting easier and you get the results you want right away.

There are a number of free editing tools to resize photos. The one I use the most is PicMonkey, which gives me a number of options when I want to do more than just resize the photo, such as change the background or frame it.   The resize option is under the crop tab.  If you have another free editing tool to suggest, please list it in the comments below.

Here is an infographic with the 2015 image sizes as well as a few tips for the most popular social media sites.  This is information that can save you a lot of time and enhance your presentation. Click on the infographic to see it full size.

I use Canva. com. Outside of Photoshop, it’s a great tool to size your images.

Great infographic, thank you Sister! For folks looking for a free tool that has similar functionality as Photoshop check out “The Gimp”. It’s a bit more complicated, but for someone looking to have quite a bit of power without the cost of an Adobe product, check out http://www.gimp.org/.

I use MS Publisher a lot of times, which allows me to modify the picture and save it as a new file.
